Squeaky interior doors are surprisingly common in Florida's humid climate, where moisture and dust cause problems with hinges. If the door starts squeaking, the hinge pins are likely dry or filled with debris. Fortunately, applying some lubricant usually takes less than two minutes and stops the squeaking and adding years to the pin's lifespan.
Humidity leads to condensation and corrosion on door hinges. Increased dust accumulation in tandem with fluctuating temperatures is a recipe for disaster, leading to sticking sliding door, squeaking, and rust on the pin.
So that squeaking noise is coming from dry pins or dust. Luckily, the fix is relatively simple — a short lubricating routine usually does the trick. Key words: silicone or white lithium grease. Don't use WD-40 or something that evaporates too fast or attracts dust.
This quick fix makes a difference. Identify when this causes a problem by finding doors that just refuse to slide better.
You'll need a couple of tools from around the house. You probably already have a clean cloth, a screwdriver set, and a small flat head or a pin punch.
With that on hand, put two drops of your chosen lubricant on each pin along the shaft of the pin AND inside of the hinge cavity. Try to be as neat as possible.
That lasts longer that way, too.
At last, tightly screw the plates back, reinsert all the pins in the order you took them out, and Done!
